Inboard, Sterndrive and Outboard β Which Do You Have?
The right replacement starts with your drive configuration. Inboard engines sit inside the hull and turn a shaft running straight through the bottom to a propeller, common on ski/wake boats, cruisers and larger sport-fishers. Sterndrive (I/O) setups mount the engine inside the transom but send power out through an outdrive (stern leg) that also steers and trims, the dominant layout on bowriders and family cruisers. Outboards bolt to the transom as a self-contained engine-and-drive unit you tilt clear of the water.
We supply all three. For sterndrive boats you can usually keep your existing outdrive and just replace the engine, but we will help you confirm the bellhousing, gimbal and coupler match. For inboards we match transmission, rotation and shaft alignment. For outboards we match shaft length, controls and rigging generation.
- Inboard: shaft-drive, V-drive ski/wake, cruiser and sport-fish power
- Sterndrive (I/O): engine inside the transom, drive on the stern
- Outboard: complete engine and drive unit mounted on the transom
